My husband and I stayed at this lodge during our honeymoon and could
not find one bad thing to say about it. Set in the beautiful
surroundings of hunter valley you have your own very rustic log
cabin. Very spacious rooms and wine ready in your room for when you
arrive! We even managed to see kangaroos hopping around right
outside by the vineyards. The shakey tables restaurant is also
highly recommended. Delicious food with wine from their own vinyard.
Will definately be going back there. Cannot recommend it enough.
Fantastic 3 days!

This is a beautiful little place in a beautiful setting - rustic,
comfortable cabins filled with bottles of wine, a fabulous
restaurant and a wonderfully cooling pool surrounded by vineyards. A
great place, and a great base for seeing this fantastic region.

We have just returned home from a stay at the Hunter Country Lodge
and the Shakey Tables Restaurant. The facility is about a 10 minute
drive up the main road from the Visitors Center. The accomodations
and restaurant are on a beautiful large piece of property. There are
two long rows of cabins that are rustic but nicely decorated and
very comfortable. They are on each side of the restaurant. If you
are looking for a 5 star, spa type atmosphere, you would not be
happy here. However if you like the country, do not mind a rustic
cabin, and would like a chance to see live kangaroos hop about (lots
of them!) right outside your window and abundant wildlife, you will
love it.
The lovely owners (also chef and vitner) could not be nicer and each
room comes stocked with the wines grown on the new vineyard on the
property. We found the wines very nice, and are available for sale.
The food is yummy and beautifully presented. Paula, the owner/chef
has won several well deserved awards. The restaurant is decorated
with vivid colors and very whimsical, with wonderful paintings by
Paula that add to the atmosphere. We would definitely stay here
again!

Simon and Paula Rengger understand the demands of the
contemporary guest. Far from offering a mere place to stay, they endeavour to provide "a complete experience". Tucked away in the Hunter Valley, the Hunter Country Lodge is a wonderful reflection of this ethos.
Located on 12 hectares of blissfully quiet, lush native bushland, Simon and Paula have set to work to turn this 1970's motel into a haven of true hospitality. The 16 cabin-style rooms have polished timer
floors, Laura Ashley linen and a rich colour scheme that evokes the greens and ambers of the region's grape harvest. All rooms have king or queen sized beds, air conditioning and heating, bar fridges, tea and coffee making facilities, TV and a spacious
ensuite.
At the centre of a Hunter Country Lodge experience is the wonderful food in Shakey Tables Restaurant. This dining experience has been recognised by the Sydney Morning Herald as one of the top five in the
Hunter Valley Region. Described as "fusion", chef Paula whips up a storm of Australian cuisine with strong Asian overtones. Try the tropical fruit salsa wrapped in smoked salmon in an orange, basil vinaigrette, A crispy-skinned duck is served
with sour cherries and watercress salad. Return guests to Shakey Tables have been known to attribute their loyalty to the deceptively
humble-named Two Pots dessert, while a blueberry and walnut tart aim to seduce with white chocolate ice cream. Shakey Tables boasts one of the most extensive boutique wine lists in the valley and features
the local Lovedale selection.
The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere. The wine racks once served as the mail sorting system in Sydney's GPO, The coffee table was made from the beams of the old Broke bridge, while the odd
assortment of tables and chairs strike a quirky note that gives the restaurant its name. From your table, kangaroos can be seen in the floodlights, grazing on their own evening meal.
Shakey Tables is also the venue for a lush continental and hearty cooked
breakfast. On Saturdays & Sundays lunch is served for those needing an energy boost before heading out for bush walks, hot air ballooning, sky diving or horse and carriage wine tours.
